Les Demoiselles d'Avignon

Jason Richards, 2012. "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon".

This is a work I created using hundreds of Photoshop layers. I think I underestimated just how many it would take when I began. It references one of Picasso's revolutionary works (Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, 1907), which shocked and angered society at the time. The confrontational depiction of five prostitutes, their tribal masks and the cubist painting approach were all part of the debate. It was also inspired by the awesome images I've seen at HMN ALNS.

I wanted to assemble a bunch of superhumans, mutants, whatever you want to call them and display them in a similar unnerving way.

This is the image I started with.
